Belgian football chiefs have moved to end the season amid current pandemic situation. Club Brugge has been crowned champions even if there was just one game left in regular season.

 

Belgian football chiefs have cancelled the rest of the season and crowned Club Brugge champions due to pandemic situation.

They have called for an immediate end to the 2019-20 campaign with just one game of the regular season to go before the play-offs.

The Jupiler Pro League's board of directors voted for cancellation in a conference call this Thursday.

Brugge are 15 points clear of Gent in second - who have claimed a place in next season's Champions League.

The league with 26 teams normally ends after 30 games before the top six enter a play-off system.

The Board of Directors took into the consideration the recommendations of Dr Van Ranst and the government that it is highly unlikely that games with big amount of public will be played before June 30'.

'The current situation also makes it very unclear training courses can be foreseen at all.

All European football were suspended since last month due to the coronavirus.
